One of the best ways to prepare for the birth of your baby is to undertake a regular prenatal yoga practice. We have a select team of highly experienced and qualified prenatal teachers working throughout both centres. To read more about what we offer for prenatal yogis check out our pregnancy and birth page.
A specialist style of yoga in itself, prenatal yoga assists the mothers attention to wind itself slowly into her centre. There she feels the connection that exists between her and her child and from there she begins her preparations for labour. The physical body, sometimes strengthened, sometimes softened, is offering its familiarity and its own sense of home as the mother undertakes the journey of birth, sometimes gritty, sometimes primal. The skills she will learn for breath control and physical ease of placement of her body will be of great comfort and great joy on the day she will need them most.

From conception to the moment when you hold your baby in your arms is a journey of the most important and personal kind. Birthing in a world very different from that of our parents, we are looking to know more, understand more and have more autonomy in our pregnancy and birthing choices.
We are pleased to be able to offer a platform of complementary fertility and prenatal care that can compliment that of your caregivers. Whether you are planning to birth at home or in hospital, with a private midwife, through the public system or with a private gynaecologist.
Through fertility and prenatal acupuncture, massage, prenatal yoga, our up and coming calm birth classes, baby yoga and parenting psychologist Robin Grille there is something here for every stage of your family journey.
We welcome your enquiries and questions and are here to help guide you to the right practitioner, course or class to meet your needs.
ACUPUNCTURE FOR FERTILITY
The journey to a successful conception for many can be a difficult one. Acupuncture has an amazing ability to maximise your chances of conception both naturally and whilst undergoing IVF by improving your own natural fertility.
Working with your acupuncturist the aim of treatment is firstly to improve your overall health by working constitutionally. This means taking down a comprehensive history to establish what makes your body tick, what’s working well and what needs some help – little things often highlight an underlying symptom that leads us to the heart of the issue.
Secondly we work specifically on fertility issues, things such as :
Irregular cycles, painful periods, stabilising hormone levels, PCOS, improving blood flow to the ovaries, Fallopian tubes and uterus, stimulating the production of fertile mucous, frequent miscarriage, endometriosis, low libido, low sperm count or poor morphology, unexplained infertility.
The most important thing is to make a start. After the initial treatment, when a comprehensive history has been taken, your acupuncturist will give you an idea of how the treatment will progress. This may include acupuncture, Chinese herbs, cupping, moxibustion (heating of specific acupuncture points).
You don’t need to be having problems conceiving to benefit from acupuncture because there is no doubt your chances of conceiving will be improved if you are in optimum health. Maybe you are just planning ahead, or are just coming off the pill it’s a great time to take the time to maximise your chances.
Detoxifying, rebalancing, dietary advice, regulating your cycle and general discussion around timing, fertile window, ovulation prediction..\
Remember the average time it takes to get pregnant is six months.
PCOS, endometriosis, multiple miscarriages, irregular cycle or it’s just not happening?
Acupuncture can help all of the above. Discovering what is holding you back is the most important thing and then having a treatment plan to rectify the issues.
Unexplained infertility in couples under 35 is just as likely to be a sperm problem as an egg problem – that’s right research shows that it’s 50/50 so the importance of sperm health is under rated.
Low count, motility or morphology are common male infertility issues and can be assisted with treatment. It is important to remember the sperm we fix today doesn’t appear for about 3 months so sperm should not be the last thing to get treated!
Acupuncture absolutely has a role to play in the support of couples undergoing IVF. Research shows
that pregnancy rates increase with a before and after embryo transfer acupuncture session.
However, acupuncture treatment should ideally start before IVF begins to maximise its potential to help improve fertility. If there is some underlying imbalance that is hindering conception then time is needed to address this prior to the commencement of your IVF cycle.
The acupuncture treatments will then follow the cycle so that
- egg quality is enhanced,
- the endometrium is thick and even,
- the treatment supports the ovaries and the uterus,
- aims to decrease inflammation anywhere in the urogenital tract,
- assist the drugs that are stimulating the ovaries to better achieve
- and maximise the quality of the embryos.
After embryo transfer the treatment aims to support the embryo by channelling energy to help propel it to a safe and successful implantation.
The following sessions would then help nurture the tiny embryo as it grows and begins the process of laying down the microcirculation that becomes the placenta.
perm should not be the last thing to get treated!
Most miscarriages happen in the first 2 weeks after a positive pregnancy test because there is so much going on. The little blastocyst now has hundreds then thousands of self generated cells and simultaneously it is establishing a link to mum through the placenta.
We support the embryo in this early stage by increasing and smoothing the blood flow and energy and are therefore able to increase the chance of the a positive outcome.

Prenatal yoga is a wonderful tool for the birthing mother. Something real and tangible for her to hold onto during pregnancy and something concrete for her to come back to in the birth. Prenatal yoga has proved its worth in the birth room and beyond, offering a platform for self-inquiry, insight and understanding thru asana and breath practices, it is an opportunity to move deeper into the pregnancy experience as an act of love and creative celebration.
Structured and cumulative yoga practices done over the weeks of the pregnancy are collective in their approach and residual in their wake. Aiming to take you towards the final act of letting go of your baby from your body in conscious softness and compassionate surrender.
In each class we explore the important role of breath and body/mind connection for birth, and cultivate different ways to get lost in the beauty of labour as it is.
- Physical opening with strength and purpose thru asana
- Developing inner perceptual awareness thru inquiry and meditation.
- Opening to the deeper life purpose available thru conscious child birth and confident natural mothering.
- Improve sleep
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth
- Decrease lower back pain, nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches and shortness of breath
